Back Surgery Alternatives

There are several back surgery alternatives for patients diagnosed with lower back pain due to lumbar degenerative disc disease. This is welcome relief for many back pain sufferers who prefer to avoid the extensive discectomy and fusion that was formerly the only treatment option. This surgical procedure (also known as an open discectomy) involves the removal of the herniated disc material and, quite often, removal of some of the affected vertebra.

One of the most recently developed alternatives to back surgery for lumbar degenerative disc disease is Intradiscal Electrothermal Coagulation (IDET), otherwise known as annuloplasty. This minimally invasive outpatient procedure involves inserting a needle into the affected disc space and, through the use of a catheter, heating the outer core of the disc space. This is theorized to seal up the tears and reduce pain.

Even with all the latest back surgery alternatives, muscle pain remains a problem for many patients. MendMeShop ultrasound therapy is the choice of many massage therapists, physical therapists, and chiropractors for enhancing the healing process of damaged muscle tissue. The ultrasound waves penetrate deep into the muscle, providing stimulation that increases the blood supply. Along with the increased blood supply, oxygen is delivered to the affected muscle.

With frequent treatment by ultrasound, the pain from traumatized muscle tissue begins to subside. Many people report complete resolution of back pain when MendMeShop Ultrasound is used according to directions.
